Preparing for my first 50mile trail race

2014 has been a busy year with enjoying the first of many of my daughter’s milestones, running some amazing races, traveling and enjoying being a stay-at-home mom as well as running some new distances to me.

I have, to this date, ran 2 50k Ultra distances this year, and will end my season with a 50mile trail run this weekend in the Marin headlands called the Northface Endurance Challenge.

As the race is in less than 3 days I’m feeling nervous, antsy and anxious, as tapering for me was never my strongest suit. I feel much better being sore, wiped and have pushed my body to it’s fullest potential. The past 2 weeks have been too easy for me!
I did have an awesome last long run of 11.5 miles the day after Thanksgiving, completing 2500 feet of climbing in 4.5 miles right up Mt Tam at 6am to make the sunrise!

My kind of Black Friday!

Otherwise, I’ve been dodging raindrops here in Northern California, while entertaining my daughter, trying to lay low but also keep my legs moving and limber.

I have had 2 early morning runs this week that have been in pouring rain:

Anyone use the ‘Outsider‘ app to get an overall view of the weather for a run? It’s great!

Enough about rain and tapering… Otherwise I’ve been keeping my core strong and continuing lots of yoga to stay loose.

Wish me luck and I’ll be back later with some great new workouts I’ve put together as well as a 50 mile update!

Stay warm and dry out there 🙂
